A simple reset for the weekend

Hi Reader

It's Friday afternoon and there's a chance your brain feels like it's been through a blender this week.

Mine certainly has.

I spent Tuesday morning staring at my to-do list, paralysed by the number of things demanding my attention.

Everything seemed urgent but nothing felt important all at the same time.

The coffee went cold in the time it took me to just pick one thing and start.

Then I remembered something I tell my clients all the time: your brain isn't broken, it's just wired differently.

And differently means we need to work with our patterns, not fight them.

So I did something radical. I closed my laptop, went for a 10-minute walk, and came back to tackle just one small thing.

Not the biggest, scariest item on my list – something I could complete in 15 minutes.

It worked.

That tiny win created momentum, and suddenly the rest of the day felt manageable again.

Here's what I want you to remember as you head into the weekend: those moments when you feel overwhelmed or stuck aren't evidence that you're failing.

They're your brain's way of telling you it needs a different approach.

Maybe you need movement before mental tasks (helps to deliver those neurotransmitting chemicals).

Maybe you need to break big projects into micro-steps (helps to reduce executive functioning challenges & overwhelm).

Maybe you need to honour your energy rhythms instead of forcing productivity at 2 in the afternoon when your brain hits a slump mode.

Quick weekend reset:

  • Pick three things you want to accomplish (not thirty)
  • Schedule in proper rest time (yes, it goes in the calendar)
  • Notice what actually gives you energy vs. what drains it
  • Be kind to yourself when plans change

I had an amazing conversation with a new client this week who said something that stuck with me: "I spent so long trying to fix myself that I never learned to understand myself."

Understanding comes first.

Always.

Have a wonderful weekend, and remember – you're not broken, you're just beautifully different.

With very best & brightest love.

Beth

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hi Reader, "... I mean, I always like listening to your words..." That's what my partner said when I told him I was writing about our recent goodbye to Tinkerbell, our family dog. He knows me well enough to predict I'd find meaning in even the hardest moments. These past few weeks have been a whirlwind. Moving house, adjusting to new routines, reminding myself to rest. Then over the weekend, we said goodbye to Tinkerbell. This isn't a sympathy post – she...

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hi Reader, ... and I'm hoping you might have answers. I'm sitting here in my half-packed house (yes, still moving — the chaos continues) and I've been thinking about you. Not in a creepy way (really not my style), but in that coach-y way where I wonder how what I'm sharing actually lands with you. I'm going through this massive shift right now. Not just the physical move—weird enough—but something deeper. 'm getting really clear on what I want to focus...

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hi Reader, Here we go again. My heart is doing that thing again – like I've been overdoing the coffee (though let's be honest, I probably have). It's that mix of terror and excitement you feel when you're about to do something that feels really, really important. I've been quietly working on something for months now. Top secret stuff. After years of watching brilliant people – including myself – struggle to navigate a world that wasn't built with our...
