The Power of Acceptance

BETH THOMAS

RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST

Hi Reader,

I was on a podcast recently recently with Janine VanStee talking about acceptance.

You can listen here

This feels especially relevant right now, not just for me but also for many clients I've been working with.

Funny how themes tend to overlap like that, isn't it?

I'm facing some hairy scary changes ahead with a big move on the way and my anxiety levels are definitely spiking and the monsters under my bed are getting restless.

My head is filled with all those "what ifs":

  • What if it doesn't go well?
  • What if I don't like where I'm going to live?
  • What if I can't adjust quickly enough?

When I get curious about why I'm feeling this way, it boils down to one of my core limiting beliefs – that question of "enoughness."

I talk about this concept often, but let's be honest – it can be really tough too!

Looking back at my podcast experience, I actually enjoyed it without much anxiety because I've done so many now.

Watching myself on video, I notice how much I fidget and talk with my hands.

But it's fine.

Previously that might have made me self-conscious but now I can use the power of acceptance to embrace this as a vibrant part of my expression.

As we move into summer – with changing routines, holiday plans (or not), new jobs (or not), changes to the weather and all those fitness goals we may or may not have started – I invite you to pause.

When was the last time you used acceptance in a powerful way to reclaim your present moment?

To find what grounds you, anchors you, reassures you?

I'd love to hear how it goes for you.

With very best & brightest love

Beth

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hi Reader, "... I mean, I always like listening to your words..." That's what my partner said when I told him I was writing about our recent goodbye to Tinkerbell, our family dog. He knows me well enough to predict I'd find meaning in even the hardest moments. These past few weeks have been a whirlwind. Moving house, adjusting to new routines, reminding myself to rest. Then over the weekend, we said goodbye to Tinkerbell. This isn't a sympathy post – she...

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hi Reader It's Friday afternoon and there's a chance your brain feels like it's been through a blender this week. Mine certainly has. I spent Tuesday morning staring at my to-do list, paralysed by the number of things demanding my attention. Everything seemed urgent but nothing felt important all at the same time. The coffee went cold in the time it took me to just pick one thing and start. Then I remembered something I tell my clients all the time: your...

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hi Reader, ... and I'm hoping you might have answers. I'm sitting here in my half-packed house (yes, still moving β€” the chaos continues) and I've been thinking about you. Not in a creepy way (really not my style), but in that coach-y way where I wonder how what I'm sharing actually lands with you. I'm going through this massive shift right now. Not just the physical moveβ€”weird enoughβ€”but something deeper. 'm getting really clear on what I want to focus...
